How to make money during COVID19 (Part 2)

In 2020, it is an absolute reality that you can work from home in the UK but what can you do and is it well paid?

How to make money working from home during COVID19. Indeed work from home!

In Part 1 : How to make money during COVID19 we looked at some paid 'gigs'  you could do as part or full-time work from home during lockdown ..

or as Americans like to coin it: 'The Side Hustle'

Hear Thee Hear Thee! (*rings bell and town cries.)

Some question first. Have you been searching for home office jobs UK? Working from home jobs Scotland? Working from home jobs England? Wales? UK! etc etc etc

Stay with me here ..

Are you in quarantine or self-isolating? Self Employed with time on your hands? Employed but with time on your hands? Recently made redundant? Children off from school and no childcare? Spending more than 3 hours a day combing through e4s? Well, consider putting this free-time to good use and making some sweet moolah with these genuine work from home jobs UK:

1. Babysitting, Housekeeping, Au pairing .. caring?

Fancy an 'Adventure in Babysitting'? Childcare? Or do you keep a good house? You can find a broad variety of care / domestic jobs in your area at (the well-named) Care. Or a variety of sitter jobs at sitters (which may or may not include any sedentary activities)

2. Teach English online

Yiyienglish, LANDI , NativeCamp to name but three sites where you can register to teach English to people who do not. All you need is the ability to speak English, a computer, an internet connection, and a headset to get started. Very often you can set your own schedule and are offered assistance and development along the way. These companies only expect you to teach and not have to deal with parents or unnecessary bureaucracy. Even a quick search of job sites such as indeed or jobsite will throw up daily jobs for these types of online roles.

3. Fast typer? Get a transcription job

There seems to be a lot of work form home jobs UK data entry, and a lot of job sites will have postings for transcription (either from an audio or video source) Now .. I've always considered myself a bit of a 'Dash' (from The Incredibles) when it comes to typing but me-oh-my how quick I was proved wrong when I put my skills to the test! To successfully work in transcription you need a typing speed of about 70-80 words per minute and be able to transcribe with an accuracy level of 100% for clear audio. Try an online test first and see how you fair... if you are more of a keyboard sprinter than myself then give these sites a whirl TAKENOTE, GoTranscript, scribie, and Upwork.

4. An uncelebrated wordsmith? Become a writer!

Companies such as Contena will pay you for your home based, freelance writing (if you're any good) On the opposite end of the spectrum if you aren't a creative writer but a stickler for grammar and all things 'proper' English Guv'nor .. then GRAMLEE will pay you to edit other peoples silly, old, non-sensical writing. Don't forget of your at home working, you get a working from home allowance for tax purposes ;-)

5. Blog Blog Blogging Blogger of the Blogosphere

Are you a working mum? Are you one of the working mums who are creative and brilliant at writing? If you are capable of writing and documenting interesting, original content (the easy part) and can set up your very own online blog (the not so easy part) AND can get your head around monetising your blog by carrying advertising and affiliate marketing from AWIN, Commission Junction or Google Adsense (the impossible part) THEN .. AND ONLY THEN! resonate with a few million followers .. you might be on your way to earning some real coin and working from anywhere in the world.

TAXO'D TOP TIP - Heard of HARO ? If you are blogging, 'Help A Reporter Out' really is an excellent resource and super easy to set up HARO alerts in.

6. Tutor online

If you want a remote work from home job and would rather teach in your area of expertise you could try offering your skills and knowledge to others and tutor online. Earning £20-30ph in disciplines such as maths, science, history. Tutorful and MyTutor offer easy sign-up services. All you need is some video conferencing software, a headset, and a computer.

7. Answer specialist questions

If you are one of those humans who has won a million pounds many times watching 'Who wants to be a millionaire', has never failed to get a 'pointless' answer and who laughs in the face of the professional quizzers in 'The Chase' then why not get paid to answer questions posted by other humans? If yes, you should mentally metamorphose yourself on over to justanswer (and it helps if you are an expert in your field) ;-)

8. Polyglot much? Be a translator

On a par with Michel Thomas? A ninja in many languages? (or fluent in even just two) Then gengo, LIONBRIDGE, Unbabel and Upwork will be able to monetize your mastery of Language. Regardless of not being able to travel because of pandemic rules .. you can at least feel like you are abroad, chatting another language!

9. Become a horse whisperer *(OK .. start smaller) Be a dog walker!

If you love pets and most importantly 'other people's pets’ then consider becoming a dog walker or a cat sitter. I suppose work from home jobs in London are better aligned for this where there is a a denser population. Rover, Wag, Dogwalkingnow, welovepets, and friendsforpets all cover a wide area and are always looking for new pet carers and dog walkers. Not to mention you could post your services the old fashioned way - on a piece of parchment paper, as a 'tear-off poster' in your local shop.

10. Student? Get on e4s! Employment for Students.

e4s or Employment 4 students specialises in advertising student jobs, part time jobs, seasonal jobs, internships, entry level jobs and graduate jobs. It's easy to search for work experience opportunities or setup job alerts for specific job vacancies ranging from summer jobs & Christmas jobs to temporary jobs & gap year work.

The best aspect of all these jobs is you have very few limitations with the time they would need to be done. You could file them under morning jobs or nightshift jobs. Giving you work flexibility.

And ..

that's a wrap (*Puts feet up, applies facemask and relaxes) .. I hope some of these have been of interest to you, even if they only serve to illuminate viable paths forward - out of these unprecedented times. I have friends who do successfully earn money (they call it 'free money UK') doing 'more than one' of these things .. but then (just like service-station toast and butter) be wary not to spread yourself a little bit thin.
